The International Olympiad in Audiovisual Translation
The First International Olympiad in Audiovisual Translation was held from October 28 to 30 at Omsk F. M. Dostoevsky State University.
The event was organized during implementation of the student union development program in 2016, with the support of Neotech, the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation, the Science and Innovation Committee of the Youth Council under the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation, the RuFilms School of Audiovisual Translation, the Union of Translators of Russia and T-Service (St. Petersburg).
The Olympiad was held in two stages. Nearly 300 novice and more experienced translators from Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Latvia took part in the off-site stage. A total of 13 translators from 7 Russian regions made it to the final. Representatives of Russian and foreign universities and colleges and translation companies were the judges at the Olympiad.
For 3 days, Olympiad participants, students from Omsk F. M. Dostoevsky State University and visitors attended workshops conducted by leading audiovisual translation specialists, performed Olympiad tasks, and took part in various events dedicated to the Year of Russian Cinema and the 120th Anniversary of World Cinematography.
Tatiana Konovalova (Perm) won the grand prize, first prize went to Zulfiya Salmanova (Ufa), second prize to Anastasia Khokhlova (Moscow), and two Osmk natives shared third prize: Olga Lavrinovich and Yulia Stepura. All the other finalists received diplomas and commemorative medals. The winners received prizes of certificates from Olympiad partners, T-Service, Neotech and RuFilms School of Audiovisual Translation.
